IEEE Members Discuss User- and Environmentally-Friendly Consumer Electronics Trends

A Jetsons lifestyle soon to become a reality
LAS VEGAS, Jan. 6 /PRNewswire/ -- A "Jetsons" lifestyle may soon become a reality thanks to innovations in artificial intelligence, virtual technology, mobile technology, entertainment and serious gaming, robotics, and environmentally-friendly electronics. Members of IEEE - the world's largest technical professional association - are working around the globe to advance these technologies to improve end-user interaction; creating a more mobile, integrated, and energy-efficient experience.
IEEE announced today that a panel of its members, entitled "Emerging CE Technology", will discuss how the latest advances in consumer electronics benefit humanity at the 2010 Consumer Electronics Show (CES). Topics include wireless and mobile, HDTV, IPTV, 3DTV, home networking and "green" consumer electronics. The panel will be held on 9 January, 2010, at 10:30 a.m. PST in room N264 at the Las Vegas Convention Center.
"In the last 10 years, consumer electronics devices have become feature-rich, while also becoming more affordable," said IEEE Fellow, Stuart Lipoff, moderator of the panel and chairman of the IEEE Consumer Electronics Society Standards Committee. "We're now seeing an emphasis placed on improving the user experience despite adding more and more features. Technologies such as artificial intelligence and voice recognition will make it possible to make the complexities of the device invisible and easy to use."
CES is also the site for the 2010 IEEE Conference on Consumer Electronics, sponsored by the IEEE Consumer Electronics Society. During the three-day IEEE conference, more than 100 technology papers will be presented by the leading engineers, technologists, inventors, and academics who are designing and creating emerging consumer electronics world-wide. Presentations include:
-- South Korea-based IEEE Member Song Minseok on a GPS- and ultrasound
signals-based guidance system his team developed for the blind;
-- Colombia-based IEEE Member Alberto Cortes and his Spain-based team
will discuss guidelines and best practices consumers should use to
protect their financial and personal information online as information
gathering becomes more automated and cloud-based;
-- Japan-based IEEE Member Isao Kawahara on next-generation 3D plasma
home theater systems;
-- South Korea-based IEEE Member Kim Hakil on secure remote fingerprint
authentication to optimize the energy efficiency of a mobile device;
-- Japan-based IEEE Fellow Yukihiro Nakamura and IEEE Member Masanobu Abe
on personalized TV program recommendations based on a "life log" of
the users viewing habits and preferences;
-- U.K.-based IEEE Member Michael Evans and his team on the
personalization of broadcast programs using synchronized Internet
content.
