Getting out old movies on a rainy day can make for great entertainment. Though a little before my time, Godzilla movies can even still provide a couple of laughs. And I can even remember my childhood days playing with dinosaur figures, staging epic battles. Atari feels for me because they have released Godzilla Unleashed which brings my childhood games a little more up-to-date, allowing the epic battle between Godzilla and his adversaries to continue on the Wii and PlayStation 2 along with both the DS and PSP handhelds.

Strange meteorites have crashed into earth and have brought with them mayhem all around the world with robotic and alien monsters attacking many major cities. It?s up to the ?King of the Monsters,? Godzilla, and the rest of his monstrous team to stop the attack and save earth and all its inhabitants. Godzilla Unleashed has both a story mode where players choose a monster to take through twenty missions, and a multiplayer mode where up to four players can use the monster of their choice to fight in a battle to the death against their friends.

With its Everyone 10+ rating from the ESRB, Godzilla sticks pretty close to content appropriate to this age group. There is plenty monster mashing, and stepping on soldiers and other military equipment was a common occurrence, but Godzilla Unleashed has no blood or gore, nor was there any offensive language in the game. Even the poor cut scenes found between some levels were kept clean. I must at least applaud Atari for this.

Poor controls and level designs, and inconsistent monsters plague Godzilla Unleashed. A short and rather useless story with terrible voice acting doesn?t do much for this title either. At least the graphics are on par with what I would expect. Unfortunately, I can?t say Godzilla Unleashed quite lived up to my expectations for an epic monster fight. I guess I?ll have to go back to watching old Godzilla films for my entertainment.
